Frequently Asked Questions
Product & Specifications
1. What’s the difference between a coil insert and a ferrule insert?
Coil inserts and ferrule inserts are both embedded concrete inserts used to create secure threaded connection points in precast concrete applications. Coil inserts use a continuous steel coil, while ferrule inserts use a threaded ferrule with an attached anchoring component. The appropriate insert depends on the required load, embedment depth, concrete strength, panel thickness, and connection requirements.
2. How do I choose the right lifting anchor for my precast concrete panel?
The right lifting anchor for precast concrete depends on the panel weight, lifting configuration, concrete strength, lifting angle, embedment depth, edge distance, and panel geometry. OCS offers a range of precast lifting anchors, concrete lifting anchors, lifting pins, and lifting systems for different precast applications. For custom projects, our engineering team can review your panel drawings and project requirements to recommend a suitable lifting solution.
3. Do OCS lifting anchors meet OSHA 1926.704?
Yes, applicable OCS lifting and handling products are manufactured, inspected, and tested to meet or exceed the applicable requirements of OSHA 29 CFR 1926.704 when compared with their listed catalog ratings. OSHA 1926.704 specifies different minimum safety factors depending on the application, including 4:1 for lifting inserts in precast members other than tilt-up members and 5:1 for lifting hardware. OCS provides compliance documentation for applicable lifting products.
4. What’s the safety factor of your lifting clutches?
OCS lifting clutches are designed for lifting hardware applications with a 5:1 safety factor. OSHA 29 CFR 1926.704(d) requires lifting hardware and attachment devices to support at least five times the maximum intended load. Always use each lifting clutch with its compatible lifting anchor and within the specified safe working load.
Ordering & Logistics
5. What are your minimum order quantities?
OCS does not require a minimum order quantity for standard catalog products. Standard products, including precast lifting anchors, inserts, utility anchors, lifting pins, and other precast hardware, can be ordered according to your project needs. For custom products, order quantities may vary depending on the product type, specifications, customization requirements, and project parameters.
6. How long does shipping take?
Most in-stock OCS orders ship within 1–2 business days from our U.S. distribution centers. Our inventory network supports fast delivery of precast concrete accessories, lifting anchors, lifting pins, inserts, and other precast hardware across the United States. Custom or project-specific products may require additional manufacturing or engineering time.
7. Do you offer flexible payment terms?
Yes, OCS offers flexible payment terms for qualified accounts. Payment terms are subject to account approval and applicable purchasing requirements. Contact our sales team to discuss available payment options for your order or project.
8. Can I get a sample before placing a bulk order?
Yes, OCS can provide samples for select product categories before a bulk order is placed. Free samples with free shipping are available for eligible inserts, utility anchors, and plate anchors, while samples for other product categories are evaluated based on the specific project requirements and application. Contact our team with your product and project details to request a sample.
